MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – A bodyguard of the mayor of San Ildefonso, Bulacan was shot dead by a lone assailant in Baliwag town Saturday night.
Virgilio Indocil, 39, was the second aide of Bulacan officials to be killed in a month, next to a staff of a provincial board member.
On April 10, Edwin Inocencio, chief of staff of provincial board member Michael Fermin, was also shot dead in Malolos City.
As this developed, San Ildefonso Mayor Gerald Galvez expressed belief the killing was politically motivated, noting the victim received death threats days before the incident.
Investigators said Indocil has just alighted from a bus in Barangay Sabang when he was shot in the arm. Unable to pull out his gun, the victim tried to run away, but the gunman chased and shot him several times.
Investigators said Indocil died from 15 gunshot wounds in the body and head. They said they have yet to determine the motive for the killing. – With Ric Sapnu
