Army to discharge militiaman caught peddling shabu

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - The Philippine Army said Friday that it will honorably discharge a militiaman who was arrested on Tuesday for peddling shabu near a military detachment.

The suspect Datu Ali Salik Nor, a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), is now in the custody of the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in Cotabato City.

Lt. Col. Roy Galido, commander of the 38th Infantry Battalion, said they are now processing the delisting of Nor from the roster of bonafide CAFGU members in Central Mindanao.

The 38th IB, a component unit of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division based in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao, has administrative control over CAFGU members in the region.

Nor, 22, was arrested by PDEA agents last May 6 while in the act of selling shabu to a poseur buyer.

“We don’t tolerate such offense. He will be discharged from the service,” Galido told The STAR via text message.

Galido said recently, he has ordered the discharge of three enlisted members of the 38th IB for drug offenses.

“They don’t deserve to stay any minute longer in the unit because they are a shame to many, who are upright and are loyal to their sworn duty to uphold the Philippine Constitution all the time,” Galido said.
