Wife of suspected Aman Futures scam mastermind falls
MANILA, Philippines — After nearly a year in hiding, the wife of the alleged brains of the Aman Futures scam has finally fallen to authorities' hands.
Quoting Chief Supt. Raul Petrasanta, Central Luzon regional police chief, a radio report said on Monday that Abigail Pendulas was arrested in Barangay Dolores in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
The report said Pendulas had been using the alias "Azziah De Guzman y Conciliado." She was accompanied by a certain "May Ojales" when she was arrested.
According to Petransanta, Pendulas was able to elude authorities before because she underwent a nose lift.
Pendulas is facing charges of syndicated estafa for pulling off a pyramiding scam that duped 15,000 people in Mindanao who had invested about P12 billion.
She is the wife of Manuel Amalilio, president of Aman Futures Group Philippines Inc. and the suspected scam mastermind.
Amalilio is still detained in Malaysia after his arrest there early last year. -Louis Bacani
