Pork up by P10 per kilo in Bulacan
MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – Despite the hot weather, livestock in Bulacan remain safe but the price of pork here has increased by P10 to P40 per kilo.
As this developed, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is monitoring pig farms in the province for possible cases of pneumonia, the most prevalent disease among animals during shifts in temperatures.
PVO head Voltaire Basinang said they intensified surveillance for weather-related diseases in livestock in the province.
Basinang said they have not monitored any outbreaks, but noted cases of diarrhea at a farm in Pandi town in February.
Vendors at a Malolos public market said the increase in pork prices was due to supply shortage.
According to the PVO, the local pork requirement is supplied by backyard hog farmers, as commercial farms supply 60 percent of Metro Manila’s pork need.
