Barangay official shot dead in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - An unidentified gunman shot dead a barangay official inside his own house in Manila, before dawn Friday.

A radio report said barangay councilman Jesus Lita of Barangay 286, Zone 26 in Binondo district died from two gunshot wounds.

The assailant barged inside the house of the victim along Valderrama Street and shot the Lita, who was then sleeping.

Police investigators recovered from the scene empty shells of .45 pistol.

Lita had been involved in the anti-criminal and anti illegal drugs drive in his jurisdiction, the report said.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
