Taguig marks 427th anniversary, honors outstanding residents

MANILA, Philippines - Taguig City marked its 427th founding anniversary over the weekend by honoring its outstanding residents who have given pride to the city by their achievements.

One of those honored was now Engineer Pol John Cruz, a full scholar of the Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need (LANI) who topped the Electrical Engineering Board Examination this year.

“It gives us a great sense of pride to call Pol John Cruz a Taguigeño. He is one living testament that we made a very good decision when we allocated a huge part of our resources to our scholarship programs and breathe life to the dreams of our children,” said Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.

Now at P400 million, Taguig’s LANI scholarship is the biggest of its kind among local government units in the country now.

Other Taguig City residents who were honored were Danny Rayos del Sol, a pioneer of ostrich egg sculpting in the country; Bb. Pilipinas International 2014 Mary Anne Bianca Guidotti; other board examination topnotchers; students of the Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School who won in various international math competitions; bar exam passers; Taguig war veterans; and members of the Taguig City University Varsity Pep Squad.

Also marking Taguig City’s anniversary was a kite flying contest by Taguig’s various barangays at the C-6 Road in Barangay Napindan.

Meanwhile, as part of the city’s anniversary celebrations, the city also held this year’s “Mutya ng Taguig” beauty contest.

“The Mutya showcases not only the beauty of the Taguigena, but also her intelligence and virtues. I am proud of these young ladies because they represent the best side of Taguig,” Cayetano said.
