MANILA, Philippines - A suspected leader of a gunrunning syndicate based in Davao del Sur was arrested by authorities during a raid on Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong, director of the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said operatives nabbed Walter Miano Sr., the alleged leader of the Loloy Miano group.
Magalong said Miano was arrested on Tuesday during raids in two suspected hideouts of the group in Sitio Kiawit, Barangay Zone 2 and Sitio Goma, Sta Cruz, both in Davao Del Sur.
Confiscated during the search were 10 cal.38 revolvers, three airguns, a marble rifle, assorted ammunition, machines and tools used in the illegal manufacture different calibers of firearms.
When checked with the Firearms and Explosives Division, authorities discovered that Miano was not included in the list of persons with licenses to manufacture firearms.
Appropriate charges are now being readied against Miano.
