MANILA, Philippines - La Union will broaden its efforts this year for the social and economic empowerment of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
This was announced by Gov. Manuel Ortega recently as the Regional Development Council-1 (RDC-1) recognized La Union’s efforts to realize the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The province was hailed as champion in the search for the Best MDG Project Implementer during the RDC-1 Awards and Recognition Program held in San Fernando, La Union last week.
The award was given to La Union for its initiatives, creative capacities and accomplishments in the implementation of MDG programs and projects.
These programs include eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, realization of universal primary education; promotion of gender equality and women empowerment; reduction of child mortality rates; and improvement of maternal health.
In his 2014 State of the Province Address last February, Ortega detailed how his administration would intensify this year’s preventive, promotion and curative and rehabilitative health programs and poverty reduction through agri-agro development and rural infrastructure.
Also during the RDC-1 awarding rites, La Union was declared champion in the search for the Best Local Government Unit-Coastal Resource Management Implementer.
