NPA admits seizing soldier in Compostela

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) yesterday admitted seizing a soldier in a checkpoint in New Laak, Compostela Valley last Friday.

The insurgents accused their captive, Sgt. Jeric Bucio Curay, of taking part in “counter-revolutionary and anti-people’s activities” of the Armed Forces.

Curay was snatched in a checkpoint that the rebels mounted in Barangay Andap, New Laak town last Friday.

The Armed Forces’ Eastern Mindanao Command confirmed the kidnapping.

The guerrillas tagged Curay in alleged illegal logging activities and crimes against indigenous folk or lumads in Davao Oriental, Agusan del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Norte.

The NPA gave assurance that it would be lenient in treating Curay as “prisoner of war.”

The insurgents have reportedly renewed its campaign against the military and politicians supposedly protecting illegal loggers.
