Drug test for Sarangani workers pushed

Ramil Bajo - The Philippine Star

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines   â€“ The provincial government of Sarangani is considering to subject their employees to a random drug test amid reports that some of them are involved in illegal drug incidents.

The plan was mentioned during a meeting of the peace and order council at the capitol.

Mariteer Sayson, officer-in-charge of Sarangani, said the mayors and chiefs of police of the province’s seven towns agreed to push the drug test as the municipal administrators expressed supported to the plan.

Sayson said the province was embarrassed upon learning that there are officials and employees of Sarangani who are involved in illegal drugs, based on reports of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Two weeks ago, PDEA agents arrested a jail guard of the Sarangani provincial jail in an operation in General Santos City. Several sachets of suspected shabu were reportedly found in the possession of Rex Morsal.

Central Mindanao PDEA regional director Aileen Lovitos said they have yet to determine if Morsal was selling illegal drugs to the inmates.
