NBI seizes P4.2-M worth of fake Jansport bags

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities on Thursday seized P4.2 million worth of fake JanSport bags and other items in various operations in Mariveles, Bataan.

The National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) Intellectual Property Rights Division was able to seize 1,801 counterfeit JanSport bags, two rolls of JanSport inner labels, 4,508 pieces of hand tags and labels, 25 JanSport straps and seven sewing machines valued at P4.2 millon.

Judge Lyliha Abella-Aquino of Manila Trial Court Branch 24 issued the search warrant.

The suspects included Andy Manansala and Mel Manansala, operating in Barangay Camaya, Zone 3, Mariveles, Bataan; Caesar Angeles and Evelyn Tividad of Barangay Ipag, Mariveles; Candy Pangilinan of Barangay Ipag, Mariveles; and Arman and Mercy Gusoso, owners of a establishment along the Provincial Road in Barangay Balon-Anito, Mariveles.

Charges of trademark infringement under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines are being prepared against the owners of the raided establishments.
