LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines   â€“ A barangay captain and his mother were killed while his wife and daughter were wounded when unidentified assailants shot them inside their house in Masbate City Sunday night.

Allan Marcos, 35, of Barangay Igang, was declared dead on arrival at the Masbate Provincial Hospital, where his wife Analyn and daughter Alily were being treated for gunshot wounds as of press time, said Chief Inspector Edwin Adora, officer-in-charge of the city police.

Adora said Marcos’ mother, Purita, 60, died at the scene.

Barangay councilor Dominador Manlapaz said he heard at least two gunshots at around 10:30 p.m.

Manlapaz said he later found out that the Marcoses were killed in the incident. He said before the killing, Marcos had told him that he received a death threat, reportedly due to an old grudge, but the victim did not name names. Masbate police director Senior Superintendent Jacinto Culver Sison ordered the creation of a special investigation task group to probe the incident.

Also on Sunday, a village captain was shot dead as he was attending a fiesta in the town of Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental.

Edwin Peruelo, 35, of Barangay Kumaliskis, was shot dead at about 11:30 p.m. by an unidentified assailant, who fled after the incident.

No one could identify the gunman who reportedly covered himself with a shawl as he fled.

Family of 4 killed in Mindoro attack

Four members of a family were shot dead while another was wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Bo-ngabong, Oriental Mindoro Sunday.

Police identified the fatalities as farmer Hector Saulong, 50, and his children Rick Rick, Stephanie and Bon-Bon.

Saulong’s wife, Josephine, survived the attack, but was reported to be in critical condition as of press time.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo de Jesus, Oriental Mindoro police director, declined to name the suspects.

In a report to the MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) regional police office, De Jesus said an old grudge could be the motive for the killings. – With Danny Dangcalan, Juancho Mahusay
