MANILA, Philippines -The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Monday said it will send two teams to Palawan and Eastern Samar to help in the reconstruction of devastated areas by supertyphoon Yolanda.
The teams will reconstruct a public market in Coron, Palawan, and help in rebuilding boats in Sulat, Eastern Samar, two Yolanda-devastated municipalities adopted by the agency.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the public market will provide displaced residents of Coron a source of livelihood and help bring back normalcy in the typhoon-hit area.
"We will send teams to Coron and Sulat to build public markets and fishing boats. This is part of our commitment to help areas ravaged by Yolanda recover," he said.
Under its "Adopt-a-Town" program, MMDA adopted Coron and Sulat while other local government units in Metro Manila also committed to rehabilitate other typhoon-damaged localities in the provinces of Leyte, Eastern Samar, Western Samar, and Iloilo.
In January, MMDA donated 10 motor bancas to fishermen of Sulat. Each motorboat is equipped with lamps and fishing nets.
The agency committed to donate 50 motorboats to the municipality.
MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez will personally supervise the construction works in Coron and Sulat from April 7 to 13.
