MANILA, Philippines – Global technology innovator LG Electronics continues its mission to help rebuild the communities affected by supertyphoon Yolanda.
Representatives from the Korean electronics company visited select areas of Tacloban from March 14 to 20 and held community rehabilitation with “LG Service Camp,†an annual CSR program dedicated to victims of natural calamities.
Throughout the week, LG Service Camp offered free appliance and mobile phone cleaning and repair to all affected LG customers. LG employee volunteers also extended services to Medical Missions and free "Labada Days."
“As planned, we implemented LG Service Camp when the overwhelming situation of Tacloban somewhat stabilized,†said Mr. Sung Woo Nam, managing director of LG Electronics Philippines. “The state of the nation is much improved from how it was months ago, but there is still a long way to go for these residents. As a unified corporation and community, LG will continue our pledge to support them throughout this difficulty.â€
Last year, the company donated $500,000 (approximately P22 million) cash through the Philippine Red Cross while employees took the initiative to make their own cash contributions and raise a total of $10,000. They have also sent in-kind donations worth P400,000 to beneficiary organization Sagip Kapamilya, as well as pre-packed relief goods directly to Tacloban.
Earlier this year, LG partnered with the Department of Energy and installed LG Solar Panels in Tolosa Elementary School and Tanauan High School in Tacloban to generate and sustain electricity. Mr. Nam was among the group that visited the areas and facilitated the safe and strategic installations.
Determined to uphold the pledge, LG will continue its relief efforts to aid those whose lives have been gravely affected.
