Carjack ring leader nabbed in Caloocan City - report

MANILA, Philippines - A suspected leader of a notorious carjacking ring , believed to be responsible for stealing the vehicle of Sen. Koko Pimentel in 2012, was arrested in Caloocan City Monday night.

A radio report said Joemel Salvatierra was apprehended by authorities at the house of his in-laws in Isla Verde, Caloocan around 7 p.m.

Salvatierra was nabbed on the strength of a warrant of arrest for an illegal possession case in Bulacan, the report said.

The report said that Salvatierra's group has been operating in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Pampanga  since 2010.
 
Taking parked vehicles from their drivers at gunpoint is the modus operandi of the members of the carjack group, the report added.
