5.4 magnitude quake hits Surigao del Norte

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-5.4 earthquake struck in Surigao del Norte on Monday afternoon.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that quake struck 15 kilometers southwest of Malimono town in Surigao del Norte at 1:30 p.m..

The quake struck at a depth of 19 kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity 5 in Placer, Surigao del Norte; Intensity 4 in Surigao City and Intensity 3 in Butuan City.

Phivolcs said it expects aftershocks.

Last Saturday, a magnitude-5.2 earthquake was also recorded off Burgos town in Surigao del Norte.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Libjo, Dinagat Province; Intensity 2 in Dapat and Siargao in Surigao del Norte and Intensity 1 in Surigao City.
