Engineer attacked in North Cotabato

John Unson - The Philippine Star

NORTH COTABATO – Police are hunting down two suspected extortionists who shot and wounded on Saturday an engineer involved in a multimillion-peso irrigation project in the province.

The victim, Akmad Pangilamen, 50, and a companion, a certain Mustapha Galay, 31, were on their way to Aleosan town from Pikit on board a motorcycle when they were attacked. Galay was also wounded.

Senior Inspector Mautin Pangandiman, Pikit police chief, said they were still investigating the attack but hinted that an old grudge could have something to do with the attempt on Pangilamen’s life.

“But we are not ruling the possibility that the attackers were extortionists who tried but failed to mulct money from Pangilamen,” he said.
