2 NPA rebels captured in Sorsogon

MANILA, Philippines - Two members of the communist New Peoples Army (NPA) were captured by soldiers by the Army's 9th Infantry Division following an encounter in Batang Ilan Complex, in Sorsogon  on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Medel Aguilar, 9th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the encounter took place at around 6:45 a.m. as soldiers were conducting a security patrol.

During the firefight, the rebels, identified as a certain Elias Pura, alleged finance officer of the Bicol Regional Party Committee surrendered.

Another rebel, identified as a certain "Ino" and allegedy the finance officer of the regular NPA forces in Sorsogon, was wounded in the clash and was captured. Aguilar said the wounded rebel was immediately given medical aid.
