NGCP donates computers to Negros elementary schools

MANILA, Philippines - Following the series of computer donations in south Luzon, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) recently gave tablets and printers to two elementary schools in Negros Oriental.

The San Jose Elementary School and Bulak Elementary School in Tanjay and Dauin towns, respectively, received 10 tablets, a printer and 10 SD cards each from the transmission system operator.

More than 300 students from both schools will benefit from the project, which aims to modernize and computerize the teaching methods of local elementary schools.

According to San Jose Elementary School principal Jessica Reyes, they are thankful for the donation as it will improve the quality of teaching in their school.

“Our teachers can use the computers to research for their lessons in science and math, and access the Department of Education’s Learning Resource Management Development System website to download materials,” said Reyes.

NGCP sees promise in the project. “We hear good things from faculty members who assured us that the computers will be put to good use. NGCP is happy that these tablets, which we usually use for recreation, can become powerful tools to share knowledge to students. With this project’s success, you can expect similar initiatives from us,” said NGCP corporate affairs head Nelson Cabangon.

Last Feb. 26, NGCP also donated a laptop, printer and 10 tablets to the Cabacungan Elementary School in Allen, Northern Samar, which hosts NGCP transmission facilities. The school, which has some 340 pupils, was also a recipient of the NGCP’s Balik Eskwela program in 2010.
