Miner trapped as coal mine collapses

MANILA, Philippines - Three miners were rescued while one was believed trapped after a coal mine pit collapsed in the mountain village of Donga in Danao City, yesterday morning.

Search and rescue operations were still ongoing as of press time at the Seri Mining site, which collapsed at around 6 a.m., said Police Officer 3 Roselo Campo of the city police.

Campo said the rescued miners, who were all in their youth, were working for the Berlo subcontractor hired by the Seri Mining.

Leo Manulat, vice president of the Safari Rescue Group based in Danao City, identified the missing miner as Melvin Landero, 20, of Barangay Donga.
