The Philippine Star

ALABEL, Sarangani , Philippines– The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently conferred a Safety Milestone (SMILE) award to the 55-megawatt diesel power plant here of Alsons Power Group’s Southern Philippines Power Corp. (SPPC) for logging over one million man-hours without a single “lost time” accident.

SPPC plant manager Bernardo Zamora received the award from DOLE-Region 12 director Ofelia Domingo at a ceremony in General Santos City.

A “lost time” accident is defined as a work-related accident wherein an injured worker is unable to report to work on the day after the incident or any day thereafter due to the injury sustained in the accident.

An accident is also characterized as “lost time” if the injured worker is unable to continue his normal duties due to an injury from the accident or if the accident leads to permanent injury or disability.

As of this month, the SPPC has clocked 1.3 million safe man-hours.
