MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested on Wednesday a carpenter on accusations that he raped his nine-month-old baby in Taytay, Rizal.
The suspect, Rodolfo Valle Jr., 34, however, denied the charges, saying, “My conscience is clear and I cannot do such a crime.â€
However, Valle’s partner, who is four months pregnant, insisted only Valle, a drug addict, could commit such a crime.
Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Anduyan, Rizal police director, said the couple is residing at a mountainous portion of Barangay San Juan with their closest neighbors at least a kilometer away.
Earlier, Valle’s partner brought her child to a clinic for examination as she kept on chilling despite the fair weather.
The doctor though noticed the child’s sex organ “blackened,†prompting the mother to seek the assistance of Superintendent Resty Damaso, Taytay police chief.
Damaso had the child examined by Chief Inspector Maria Anna Lisa de la Cruz, of the police crime laboratory, who confirmed that the child’s sex organ had lacerated wounds.
The findings prompted the local police, accompanied by municipal social welfare officers, to arrest Valle, who gave himself up peacefully.
“I only wanted him to admit the crime as nobody would do such a thing as only the two of us are in the house,†said Valle’s partner, who vowed to pursue the statutory rape charges that the police filed against Valle.
