LTFRB to rule on fatal Camsur bus collision case

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is set to issue a preventive suspension order on Monday on the bus that rammed another unit in Camarines Sur last Sunday, where five people were killed.

Quoting LTFRB executive director Roberto Cabrera, reports said the agency will come out with a show cause order and a preventive suspension on the Antonina bus which collided with an Elavil provincial bus in Libmanan, Camarines Sur, where both drivers, a conductor and two passengers were killed.

Last Sunday, the Antonina bus coming from Bicol was speeding along the northbound direction of the Maharlika Highway at Brgy. Mambulo Nuevo when it lost control and collided with the oncoming Elavil bus.

Almost two weeks ago, a Florida bus lost control and plunged off a ravine in Bontoc, Mt. Province, killing 17 people.

With the spate of road accidents involving buses, the LTFRB conducted a bus summit last Friday, with nearly 200 bus operators attending.

During the summit, LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez presented to the operators the plans and programs of the agency, including the proposed installation of CCTV cams, speed-limiters, and GPS-monitoring device in the units.
