Illegal mine site raided; 14 Chinese arrested

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A joint team of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and National Bureau of Investigation has raided an illegal mining and metal processing plant in Labo, Camarines Norte and arrested 14 Chinese.

MGB director Leo Jasareno yesterday said the Bo Hai Top Mining firm has been operating the mine and processing plant in Barangays Napaod and Benit without a permit and environmental clearance certificate.

Seized were 500 tons of copper, gold and iron concentrate worth at least $25,000, and six backhoes.

Jasareno said the MGB will issue today an order for the dismantling of the processing plant.

He said the MGB will also file a complaint against Bo Hai Top officials for violations of the Mining Act and the environmental law.
