GAPAN CITY, Philippines – A city councilor here survived an attack by two motorcycle-riding men who lobbed a grenade at his house before dawn yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Crizaldo Nieves, provincial police director, said Councilor Danilo de Guzman, 57, an ally of Mayor Maricel Natividad, and his family were inside their house in Barangay Malimba here when the two men hurled the grenade and then fled.
No one was hurt in the blast, which damaged though a Toyota Corolla Altis and a Nissan mini-dump truck parked in the garage.
The grenade throwing was caught by a closed-circuit television camera.
It was the second attempt on De Guzman’s life. Last September, armed men broke into his residential compound and fired shots, wounding him, his wife, Julieta, and fish vendor Rizalino Perez. – With Ric Sapnu
