MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan is being asked to transfer the custody of detained Lanao del Norte second district Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo from the Philippine National Police to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Senior Superintendent Joselito Daniel, San Juan City police chief, said the task of watching over Dimaporo, who is under hospital arrest at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, is straining their manpower.
In a motion filed last week, Daniel told the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division that the BJMP is the one tasked by law to take charge of accused for safekeeping and transport during court proceedings.
Dimaporo is facing charges of graft and malversation of public funds for alleged ghost projects worth P5 million during his previous term.
The Sandiganbayan ordered him arrested in August last year, and the arrest order was served at the hospital where he was confined due to a mild heart attack.
