Pro-life groups to picket PICC event anew

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA , Philippines - Members of the pro-life group will stage a prayer rally on Thursday outside the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City where medical abortion will be discussed.

This after a Pasay City court failed to issue a temporary restraining order and decide on the petition for injunction on the 7th Asia -Pacific Conference on Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights.

Eric Manalang, president of Pro-Life Philippines Foundation Inc., said that the judge had promised to rule on the petition before lunch Wednesday.

"The court has no decision yet on the TRO case. In this case, we shall push through with the prayer rally tomorrow at the PICC," Manalang said.

The simultaneous plenary sessions on medical abortion and safe abortion services will be tackled around 3 p.m. Thursday.

As this developed, Manalang called on more protesters to join them in the mobilization to apply pressure and stop the discussions.

"We must get more pro-lifers to support the rights of the unborn," he said.

Last Tuesday, ProLife Philippines members picketed outside the PICC compound, claiming that the event is an "abortionists' conference."

Though admitting that abortion will be discussed during the plenary session, organizers of the event said that the type of abortion to be tackled is the one being done to a woman whose life is in danger in a case of ectopic pregnancies.
