ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - – Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano yesterday installed a new commander for the naval command base here to focus on territorial defense in this part of the country.
Alano installed Rear Admiral Jesus Millan as commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), the Navy’s largest operational command, vice Rear Admiral Isabelo Gador, during a turnover ceremony at the Romulo Espaldon Naval Base here.
Gador was promoted to a higher position being the incoming naval vice commander.
Alano credited Gador’s leadership in helping quell the siege staged by members of the Moro National Liberation Front faction loyal to Nur Misuari last September, that resulted in a three-week standoff.
Alano reminded the new NFWM leadership of the vital role they play to bring stability in this part of the country.
For his part, Millan said, “We have to enhance our presence and ensure the security of our sovereignty.â€
