2,560 pass police entrance exam

MANILA, Philippines - The country now has an additional 2,560 rookie police officers who passed the police entrance examination given last October 20, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) announced Tuesday.

According to Napolcom vice chairman and executive director Eduardo Escueta, a total of 8,345 or 25.28% out of the 33,014 examinees passed the Napolcom administered police examinations conducted last October 20 in designated schools in Metro Manila and other testing centers nationwide.

Of those who took the police service entrance examination, which would qualify the applicant to the rank of Police Officer 1 (PO1), only 2,560 (18.96%) out of the 13,500 examinees passed.

Meanwhile, of the 19,514 examinees who took the police promotional tests, only 5,785 (29.64%) passed.

Escueta said the 29.64% passing rate in the promotional exams is 2.53% higher than the 27.11% passing rate in the previous promotional exams (May 26, 2013) while the 18.96% passing rate in the entrance exam is 7.15% higher than the 11.81% passing rate in the previous entrance exam.

“The significant increase in the passing percentage in the entrance and promotional examinations is an indication that the members of our police force are becoming more capable, effective and efficient,” Escueta said.

"This may also be partly attributed to the lessening of the number of test questions from 200 to 150 items which allowed the examinees more time to finish the exam,” he added.

Escueta repeats the Commission’s earlier warning for applicants of the PNP Entrance and Promotional Examinations not to commit any form of examination irregularity, such as cheating, impersonation, perjury or violation of examination rules, since the Napolcom has a computer system that keeps track of the answer patterns of examinees.

Escueta said that the list of successful examinees is already posted at the Napolcom central office in Makati City and can be viewed at the Napolcom website at www.napolcom.gov.ph. Individual reports of rating will be mailed to all examinees. Verification of test results is on-going at the Napolcom central office and its regional offices nationwide.
