Mild quakes jolt parts of Benguet, Albay

MANILA, Philippines - Mild quakes jolted the mining town of Itogon in Benguet and Baguio City yesterday morning as well as parts of Albay last Friday afternoon, government seismologists said.

Reportedly tectonic in origin, a magnitude 3.3 quake shook Itogon and Baguio City at 6:18 a.m. yesterday. It had a depth of six kilometers below the surface and its epicenter was traced at five kms southeast of the mining town.

The tremor was also felt at Intensity 2 in Baguio City.

In Albay, a magnitude 4 tectonic quake jolted parts of the province last Friday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Barangay Gogon and Intensity 2 at the Lignon Hill Observatory, both in Legazpi City. – Charlie Lagasca, Artemio Dumlao, Celso Amo
