Kidapawan reports 63 cases of dog bites in 2 weeks

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines - The City Health Office recorded 63 cases of dog bites from Jan. 1-15, high enough for just a period of two weeks.

Physician Ted Calica, assistant city health officer, said most of the cases involved stray dogs.

He said the city government has again intensified its vaccination of dogs in the city to prevent rabies infections, which are virtually incurable.

Calica said they have announced to the public, through local media outfits, their free dog vaccinations during weekdays.

Calica said there were 98 dog bite cases in the city in January 2013.

He said part of their anti-rabies campaign for 2014 is to promote “responsible pet ownership,” and to educate local folks on the need for their dogs to have anti-rabies injections.
