KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines - Jail guards on Thursday foiled an attempt by a 38-year old woman to sneak methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu into the North Cotabato provincial jail here.
The suspect, Sumbra Akmad Uray, 38, admitted ownership of the plastic sachets containing shabu placed at the bottom of a basket full of bread and eggs.
Uray was to deliver the basket to an inmate named Farida Tanggok, who is being litigated for violation of the Philippine Dangerous Drugs Act.
Uray, who hails from Barangay Kitulaan in Carmen town in the 3rd district of the province, had been turned over by the jail guards to the Kidapawan City police.
Members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology guarding the provincial jail in Barangay Amas here had earlier thwarted two separate attempts by visitors, both women, to smuggle in shabu into the penitentiary.
