MALOLOS CITY , Philippines – Local officials led by Mayor Christian Natividad cried foul over the P100 million in taxes that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is demanding from the city government.
Records obtained by The STAR showed the BIR Region 5 based in Caloocan City found revenue tax liabilities of the city government for the year 2010.
The liabilities included P22 million expanded withholding tax, P73 million final withholding tax and P76,000withholding tax on compensation.
Natividad expressed disappointment over the taxes, noting that even the city government’s social services were taxed by the BIR.
