MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said Wednesday that there are no reports yet of any terror threat to the Black Nazarene Feast this week.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said there is also no plan to jam phone signals as a response to the possible threats.
"Walang ganoong plano this year," Lacierda said at a televised press briefing.
The Palace official also said that there was no plan to declare a holiday in Manila on Thursday due to the high volume of traffic that the event would cause.
"It's understandable that traffic will be bad but we’ve learned through the years to adjust to the Feast of the Black Nazarene. So, I’m not aware of any move to declare it a holiday,†Lacierda said.
He also appealed to the devotees to practice discipline as they show their faith during the yearly procession of the Nazarene image, which is expected to last for 18 hours.
Lacierda advised the devotees to take a rest if they feel tired during the procession.
“This is another opportunity for the devotees to come together and offer their supplications for the coming year. We would ask them to please observe discipline," he said.
