MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from supertyphoon Yolanda that battered provinces in the Eastern Visayas has climbed to 6, 183, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.
In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC also reported that the number of injured persons is still at 28, 626 and the missing remained at 1,785.
The NDRRMC also said that the number of affected families in 44 provinces, 591 municipalities and 57 cities of Regions 4-A, 4-B, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Caraga is still pegged at over 3.4 million or more than 16 million individuals.
Of the total affected, over four million have been displaced, with more than 101,000 persons staying at 381 evacuation centers, the state disaster response agency added.
The NDRRMC said the total cost of damage for infrastructure and agriculture is still at more than P36.6 billion.
The national government, local government units and private institutions have already provided more than P1.2 billion worth of relief assistance to the affected population.
Meanwhile, the Task Force Normalization in Tacloban City has reported that as of Jan. 6, classes in the city have resumed as ordered by the Department of Education.
