Sudanese nabbed in Baguio drug raid
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – An African drug syndicate that hires Filipinos as drug couriers is apparently planning to engage in drug trafficking in this city, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) based in the Cordilleras said yesterday.
Agents from the PDEA and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Cordillera arrested a Sudanese man suspected of drug trafficking on Saturday.
Wadah Mohamed Elwasila Elsadig, 22, tried to resist arrest when they served the warrant at his apartment on Dahlia street.
PDEA-Cordillera assistant regional director Gil Castro said they seized from Elsadig two hashish bars, six diazepam tablets and an alleged record of his connection with the transnational drug syndicate.
Castro said one of the syndicate’s schemes was to enroll a member as a foreign exchange student. The member would then befriend Filipinos and recruit them to be drug couriers.
