BATANGAS , Philippines – A 54-year-old fisherman and his son were shot dead while two other relatives were wounded when armed men attacked them in Pulo Island in Talisay town Sunday night, police said yesterday.
In a report to Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Omega Jireh Fidel, the fatalities were identified as Estelito Martinez and his 29-year-old son Jaycee, both residents of Sitio Panikihan.
Martinez died on spot while Jaycee was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Martinez’s brother, Guillermo, 46, and nephew, Justine Martinez, 3, were wounded.
Initial reports said Martinez was putting up light bulbs outside his house when four bonnet-wearing men armed with an M-16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol shot them at around 6:30 p.m.
Police have yet to determine the motive and the persons behind the attack.
