Village watchman killed, 4 others hurt in Pasay shooting
MANILA, Philippines - A village watchman was killed while four others were hurt, including the barangay captain as gunmen opened fire on their barangay hall at Barangay 134, Zone 13 along Magtibay St. in Pasay City on Friday night.
Reports reaching the Southern Police District identified the fatality as John Quilantang.
Injured were Barangay Captain Maynard Alfaro, Barangay councilors Noel Mariano, Jose Maria Mendoza, and watchman Frank Reyes.
Initial investigation showed that the victims were at the barangay hall at abiut 9:30 p.m. and were watching a basketball game on television when the gunmen approached and opened fire through the steel grills of the barangay hall.
Police said the victims were later rushed to the Manila Adventist Hospital (formerly the Manila Sanitarium) and the Pasay City General Hospital but Quilantang was declared dead on arrival.
Police said that at least four suspects could have been involved in the attack.
Recovered at the scene were at least 15 empty caliber .45, .40 and 9 millimeter shells.
Also recovered at the scene was a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects.
Investigators are still determining the motive behind the attack.
