Thieves break in at pawnshop in Baguio on Xmas day
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Thieves entering through a manhole 50-meters away and crawling in inundated sewer lines beneath a side-street in Baguio’s main business center Session Road on Christmas eve broke into a pawnshop-money changer shop along Carantes St. here.
The painstaking “work†of supposed thieves was unsuccessful as the vault of the Star Gold pawnshop remained intact though the still unidentified thieves tried to open it with a jack, said Supt. Andrew Cayad, spokesman of the Baguio City police office.
Only a laptop and a PSP pawned to the shop were taken. Further investigation is being conducted.
Policemen believed the thieves entered through a manhole some 50 meters away and crawled beneath the establishment, using crowbars and concrete chisels to bore a hole enough for one man to enter the shop.
Policemen later on found crowbars and chisels left by the the thieves.
Probers tried to sift through the manhole below but abandoned it because of the deep water, added Cayad.
No other pieces of evidence were left by the thieves besides the possible finger prints and the tools they used, Cayad said, adding the establishment had no CCTV cameras.
For several years, thieves have been using man holes along city streets here to enter establishments and cart away valuables.
