LPA trough to bring rains over Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau yesterday warned residents of Mindanao against possible flashfloods and landslides due to heavy rains caused by a trough of a low-pressure area (LPA).
“The trough of an LPA will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao in the next 24 hours which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,†the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in an advisory.
A trough is an extended region of the LPA. It can lead to the development of a low-pressure system and severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA said there is a slim chance for the LPA to develop into a tropical cyclone.
Meanwhile, the agency said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms would prevail over the eastern and Central Visayas and the province of Aurora.
The regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos and Cordillera would also have cloudy skies with light rains.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA reiterated its warning against big waves in the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.
The provinces of Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas would have rough to very rough seas in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.
