Drug test mulled for Isabela workers
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines – The provincial government of Isabela is considering to conduct a random drug test for its employees next year after one of its dismissed capitol guards was arrested in last Friday’s illegal drug operation.
Gov. Faustino Dy III said the move would not only ensure that the employees are not involved in illegal drug use, but would promote healthy and safe working environment.
Dy’s announcement came after a former capitol worker identified as Diether Marragun was arrested during a raid in Cauayan City last Friday.
Marragun, who was formerly assigned with the capitol’s security group, was reportedly caught sniffing shabu at his house in Beverly Subdivision, according to Senior Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr., director of the provincial police.
Aside from Marragun, police also arrested village councilman Noven Guntayon, 28, and Efren Periabias, 37. Seized from them were seven plastic sachets believed containing shabu.
John Soriano, spokesman for the capitol, told The STAR that during his arrest Marragun’s was no longer connected with the provincial government as his contract had terminated on Nov. 1.
