MANILA, Philippines - Senator Nancy Binay reacted to reports and hateful comments on social media alleging that her brother, Makati Mayor Jejomar "Junjun" Binay, Jr., ordered the arrest of security guards of an upscale village who blocked his convoy.
"What was reported ... had glaring biases and bends. The video does not capture what really happened," the lawmaker said on her Twitter account on Thursday. Junjun and Nancy are children of Vice President Jejomar.
Nancy was referring to a surveillance footage contributed to a media outfit showing the four-vehicle convoy of the city mayor being prevented by three security guards from passing through Dasmariñas Village's Banyan Gate opening to McKinley Road three weeks ago.
The report alleged that the guards, who eventually allowed the vehicles to pass, were held by the police for questioning.
Nancy insisted that the issue, which has set online networks abuzz on Thursday, stemmed from false reports of the Binays' political opponents.
There are people bent on putting my family's name in bad light. The so-called Dasmarinas incdnt happnd 3 weeks ago & we've forgotten abt it.

No amount of explanation would satisfy those who have never-ending dislike for our family.

She said that both the village administration and the Binay camp have "civilly resolved the matter right after the incident, decrying its front-page treatment in a major newspaper.
Nancy believes the issue has already been "good-naturedly settled" characteristic of the spirit of Christmas. She also thanked those who questioned the report and refused to be influenced by "spiteful" posts on social media.
"It's heartwarming to know that there are people who aren't swayed by the malicious story," the neophyte lawmaker said.
The social space, meanwhile, argued that the incident indicates the kind of politicians elected into power. Others even discouraged voters from supporting the vice president in the upcoming 2016 polls, where he is said to be a presidential contender.
Ergo Atty Susmaryosep Binay of long ago wud've defended the hapless Dasma sekyu from oppression by power-tripping kids. Ang buhay nga naman.
