CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – A village chairman was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Bustos, Bulacan on Wednesday.
Romeo Taruc, 63, of Barangay Hinukay, Baliuag, died on the spot from gunshots to the head and body, said Chief Superintendent Raul Petrasanta, director of Police Regional Office 3.
Reports said Taruc had just stepped out of the Bustos Cockpit in Barangay San Pedro, when the gunman arrived and shot him at close range.
The gunman escaped on a motorcycle parked nearby.
Police recovered three slugs for a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. They have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
