CAMARINES NORTE, Philippines – An alleged ranking member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with government security forces in the town of Del Gallego in Camarines Sur on Friday.
The fatality, identified as Aldrin Rabulan, alias Ka Al, Ka Ingkit and Ka Arjun, was said to be the commanding officer of the Regional Yunit Guerrilla of the communist movement in Bicol, according to Gen. Yerson Depayso, head of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division.
The troops recovered a caliber .45 pistol, two laptop computers, seven cell phones and two backpacks from Rabulan.
The rebel leader was tagged as the mastermind of numerous offensives launched against the military and civilians, including a raid on the police stations of Bagamanoc town in 2002 and San Lorenzo Ruiz in 2003.
In 2004, Rabulan’s group reportedly kidnapped an officer of the 42nd Infantry Battalion in Tinambac, Camarines Sur.
