Police to question broadcaster’s widow

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Philippines   â€“ Authorities will invite the wife of radio broadcaster Michael Milo to shed light on his murder.

The move was prompted by allegations that Milo had told his employer, Edgar Delibo, about his wife’s alleged affair with a policeman, according to Surigao del Sur provincial police director Senior Superintendent Antonio Taylan.

“We will invite his wife. We will investigate rumors about the alleged affair or if the killing was work-related,” Taylan said.

Delibo is the chairman of Dok Alternatibo FM radio station of the Prime Broadcasting Network (PBN), where Milo was a supervisor.

Milo was driving his motorcycle when three unidentified men who were also on a motorcycle fired at him at about 4:30 p.m.

His sister Hazel said he had been separated from his wife and their two sons are now in the care of their 55-year-old mother.

She said her brother’s wife is not from Surigao del Sur but from Compostela Valley.

Taylan said they were still trying to determine the motive for the killing. He said he received reports that the alleged policeman-lover of Milo’s wife is not assigned in Tandag City but in Caraga Region.

A task force has been created to look into the murder.

Milo’s immediate superior King dela Rosa, operations chief of PBN, said the radioman had received death threats and had reported these to the police.

“He was once attacked by a group of drunk men. He got back at them armed with a caliber .45 pistol. I think the authorities should also look into this angle,” Dela Rosa said.

As this developed, Milo’s family has set his burial on Dec. 16.

Hazel said she and her brother were supposed to travel to Manila on that date.

“Now it is a different story. Dec. 16 is his burial day,” Hazel told The STAR.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday expressed alarm over the unabated killings of journalists and media practitioners as he urged the Philippine National Police to act on the cases.

Binay cited the cases of Milo and Jonas Dignos of DXGT in Maramag, Bukidnon, who were gunned down on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
