'Yolanda' relief aid from US military sold in Makati?

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities will look into reports that relief aid intended for the victims of Super Typhoon "Yolanda" are being sold in Makati, Malacañang said Wednesday.

This comes after a photo of US military Meals-Ready-to-Eat (MREs) appeared on the social networking site Facebook and raised speculations that these are relief goods for distribution in the typhoon-hit areas.

The photo, which were posted by a certain Grace Alvarez on her Facebook account last Sunday, have garnered over 900 shares.

It shows that the MREs contain the logo of of the US Department of the Defense and the phrases "US Government Property" and "Commercial resale is unlawful."

"US Army food where it says "Commercial Resale is Unlawful" now available at Cash & Carry," the Facebook post said.

"Mga naiwan po ng Americano, pinagbili ng isang General," it added.

Communications Sec. Sonny Coloma said the Philippine National Police will look into the matter.

"If this report is verified, maaaring siyasatin ito ng Philippine National Police,"

"Ang gusto natin maayos na pagkalinga at tulong sa ating mamamayan na naaayon sa ating batas. Anumang naganap na labag sa batas, tungkulin ng law enforcement agencies na siyasatin ito at ipatupad ang batas," he added.
