MANILA, Philippines - A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Southern Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Wednesday.

In its report, the Phivolcs said the quake traced at 57 kilometers southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental, was recorded at 7: 58 a.m.

It was the second earthquake in Mindadano since Sunday night when a magnitude 6 quake shook parts of the region following the movement of the trench beneath the sea of Sultan Kudarat province.

The Phivolcs said the quake was felt at intensity 5 in Mati, Davao Oriental; Davao City and Toril; and Intensity 3 in Butuan City and Kidapawan City.

It was felt at Intensity 2 in San Francisco, Agusan Del Sur; Cotabato City; General Santos City; Koronadal City; Polomolok South Cotabato; and Alabel, Sarangani, the Phivolcs said.

Phivolcs executive director Renato Solidum said they expect no damage from the earthquake. The Phivolcs, however said there would be aftershocks.

He said that the quake is related to the one that shook Sagbayan town in Bohol.

"Most likely, this event can be either be related to the Philippines fault zone which extends offshore from the mainland or the Philippine trench," Solidum said in an interview.
