Cops verifying NPA attack plot in Butuan

Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines - – Police authorities admitted yesterday they were validating intelligence reports that the New People’s Army (NPA) was plotting to attack the city hall and the provincial capitol here.

This developed after city security personnel heard three bursts of gunfire from a gray Mitsubishi sedan with tinted license plate before dawn last Sunday. Police found three 9-mm cartridges.

Senior Superintendent Nerio Bermudo, city police chief, said security was beefed up at city hall following the incident.
