Zamboanga sends 90 tons of relief goods to typhoon survivors
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Assistance for the survivors of monster typhoon Yolanda continued to stream as the 1st Army Division delivered close to 90 tons of relief goods donated by different groups and local governments in Zamboanga peninsula, an official said.
The relief mission of the 1st Army Division dubbed as Oplan Tabang Visayas intended for Ormoc and nearby municipalities is expected to arrive Friday night, said Lt. Col. Randolf Sino Cruz, spokesman of Task Force ZampeLan (Zamboanga peninsula, Lanao).
Cruz said the tons of relief goods will be delivered by the naval vessel of Naval forces Central.
He said they also deployed contingent of 40 army personnel to assist in the relief distribution.
The 89,074 kilograms of relief goods, include 7,058 food packs (38,819 kilos), 188 cartons of bottled water ( 10,945 kilos), assorted biscuits, goods, and medicines ( 10,356 kilos) and used clothes weighing 28,959 kilos.
The relief goods were donated by the concerned citizens, groups and local governments of the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Misamis Occidental and facilitated by the 1st Tabak Division, Sino Cruz said.
“The Oplan Tabang Visayas was initiated as an offshoot to the request made by individuals and groups for the 1st Division to bring the relief goods to typhoon devastated areas,†he said.
