Heavy rainfall alert raised over typhoon-ravaged Leyte
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued on Tuesday noon a yellow rainfall advisory for several areas in Leyte, which was recently battered by Super Typhoon "Yolanda."
PAGASA said the heavy rainfall warning was for the towns of Baybay, Mahaplag, Abuyog, Javier, Mac Arthur, Albuera, Burauen, Julita, Dulag, Tolosa, La Paz and Tabontabon.
The weather bureau further warned that flooding is possible in low lying areas while landslides threaten mountainous areas.
The province was among the areas devastated by the recent typhoon, with communities still in ruins after being swept by tsunami-like storm surges.
Two weeks after the disaster, the death toll has ballooned to over 5,000 while about 240,000 remain inside evacuation centers.
